When I was in Buenos Aires, in July '05, I saw an exhibit in the AMIA Jewish community center (the one rebuilt after it was destroyed by bombing in 1994). A few months before, Artist Mariana Schapiro woke up to find this on her door: "Here lives a ¡Jewess! We don't want her in the neighborhood." She decided to make it public and use it for raising consciousness. When I heard about it, I thought surely it must be an isolated thing. But the first person I told about it said, "You want to see the one at my house?" And there it was - "Whore Jew," right next to his apartment door:
